Okay, so I was a Suzie-come-lately to Bossypants, but when the book and I met up, there was so much hilarity and fun. Tina Fey’s life account from childhood to present day is a hoot and then some. Her talent for comedy writing spills over into her life story and makes for riotous reading. My personal favorite is the chapter recalling her experience when she worked at the Evanston, Illinois YMCA. The story about Tim and Joe Daffy-Ducked had me rolling in uncontrollable hysterics for ten minutes: “Heeth off his medth.” I also like how Fey recounts her life of motherhood with great self-deprecation, but the kind of insight and honesty that resonates universally. From “Teat Nazis” to her list of activities for “Me Time,” you cannot get through this book without feeling a bit lighter from the humor.

Tina Fey's story - through her own hilarious and well-written words - tells the journey of a woman who has followed her passions while confronting obstacles in what is a male dominated (to say the least) industry. In short, it's so funny yet so honest that I couldn't keep it down. She references her career, how women should approach their careers, her sex life and her great advice for women and men in this department and she highlights her own challenges (in her life and in herself). It's oddly both funny and self-reflective. The imagery she paints just jumps off the page. I highly recommend Bossypants!

My mother recommended this book to me, and bought it for my birthday. It was laugh-out loud hilarious. If you need proof that Tina Fey is a top-notch comedy writer you need only read her book.

Proving that Liz Lemon is merely a skewed version of herself, Tina had me laughing literally out loud at her tales of working the front desk at a YMCA, her stint in the traveling company of Second City, and how the gross-out writer room events from 30 Rock episode "Sun Tea" were 100% real. I have read and re-read Bossypants several times, each time enjoying it as if it were the first time I picked it up. Woefully embarrassing teenage years did her well!

This book is a must read for anyone who likes to laugh out loud, loves Tina Fey and her current show, 30 Rock. Tina tells her story - bits of her childhood, how she got into comedy, what it was like working at SNL, how she created 30 Rock - all with her signature style - wry and witty. Her descriptions of her SNL appearances as Sarah Palin were especially funny and insightful and gave me a different perspective on those performances. I'm not much of a TV person and had never watched 30 Rock before reading this book; I've watched a few episodes since reading the book and I feel like I have the inside story.

Bossypants is like standup comedy in a written form. I cannot count how many times I laughed out loud at Tina's honest and candor that she put in the book. From her stories to her times at theater summer camp, to her first job in improv, to her thoughts on parenthood there is a little something in this book for everyone to enjoy and appreciate. Certainly after reading this book, I had a new appreciation for the sketches on Saturday Nigh Live and 30 Rock. Like many memoirs there is no definite plot scheme, but the stories Tina tells are worth the read. She tells them in a bold honest way (and would expect anything less of Tina Fey in the first place) and you may find yourself laughing when describes how she got her first period (well, only the girls may laugh for they will understand her confusion in the tale). I will warn you, this book is difficult to put down, and when read in a public place may result in laughter out loud so be prepared for others to stare at you. I assure you, they are jealous because you are reading a book with such comedic power and they are not.

I should preface by saying I truly love tina. She can do no wrong, except maybe for that hair commercial. And maybe for aspects of this book. But who cares, she does so much more much more than right, and the title alone makes it worth four stars. But only 4 because, well, it's not that funny and not written all that well. At least in comparison to tina off paper. Still, buy it, read it, love it for the good parts!!!!

The next time you reach for an airplane book while packing for your next trip to Ireland, skip the bad romance that will bore you into submission, is chop full of boring characters and is so predictable you hate yourself when you shed a tear at the sappy ending. Instead buy something enjoyable, easy, and quick: Tina Fey. Double meanings aside Tina Fey's memoir/autobiography "Bossypants" is worth the trip to the library or used book shop where you will inevitably find copies waiting patiently for you on the shelf. These books are not here because they were abandoned half read or because they were unbearably boring, but because the stories are so memorable and simple that you only need to read it once and the harrowing tales of angsty teens, SNL, and Sarah Palin will be burned into your collection of dinner table conversation forever. Clearly, the best part of this book was the creation of a new word "Blorft". '"Blorft" is an adjective I just made up that means "Completely overwhelmed but proceeding as if everything is fine and reacting to stress with the torpor of a possum." I have been blorft every day for the past seven years.' Borrowing this book for the mere 6 hours it will take you to eagerly consume is well worth the small effort. You will assuredly find yourself snorting out uncontrolled laughter every 20 pages, which will in turn illicit a nervous jump from the small, immaculate Belgian man in a bowler* sitting next to you. *In case you are wondering, Hercule Poirot is nervous because in his day people took boats, not planes to get to Ireland. He appears in this review for really no reason at all other than he popped into my mind.

Being in law school, I don't get the chance to read for fun very much. So when free time opens up, I try to choose wisely. "Bossypants" was the best damn choice I made last year. I don't know if it was just comparatively witty and spit-coffee-on-my-book funny when stacked up against mandatory readings of federal income taxation, but I never wanted "Bossypants" to end. If you can manage to read the entire thing with Tina Fey's voice in your head, you will not be disappointed. It's a book that's a little bit of everything all at once (comedy, advice, autobiography), and that was just fine by me. It's short, so pace yourself to make the magic last longer. Also, your face will hurt from laughing so it's not a bad idea to take some breaks.

Bossypants by Tina Fey I love her awesome wit about life. Bossypants is a short book about life that is both serious and funny. She also is very effective in getting her political point across. She has proven that you are no one until someone has called you bossy. You know it is a great book when you do not know if you should laugh or cry.

Laugh out loud funny, poignant, endearing, neurotic, and insightful. After listening to me chuckle/snort my way through this book, my daughters (ages 18 and 25) resorted to Rock Paper Scissors to determine who would read it next. They both loved it as well.

This book is completely great. If you like anything Tina Fey has ever done (Saturday Night Live, Mean Girls, Baby Mama, 30 Rock) there's a good chance you'll enjoy this. Fey writes about aspects of her life that let you understand where she's coming from which are often relatable as well. The writing is sharp and hilarious. I especially enjoyed the chapter about her father. This book had me awkwardly laughing out loud on the bus alone and smiling until the very end.
