This was a powerful read by Black Lives Matter movement cofounder Patrisse Khan-Cullors. When They Call You a Terrorist provides moving and poetic insight into the pervasive damage of anti-blackness. Incredibly personal and also hopeful about the future of intersectional community activism, this is just the book I needed to kick off a new year.

This is a devastating work. [Lukao] is the fourth in an interconnected series by native Chamorro poet Perez about his homeland, the unincorporated US territory of Guam (Guahån). Its focus is on processions and the ceremonial passage of time — creation, birth, and marriage, destruction, extinction, and militarization. Perez is a powerful voice of indigenous Pacific Island resistance.

I was clowning on this when I first saw it, but my interest was piqued just enough to give it a shot. If it isn't just the cutest! For fans of Jordan Peele's Get Out, White Tears is a read that will get under your skin. It starts slowly, building the relationship between two young white dudes who bond over old blues records and discover a mysterious track. The second half gets wild, jumping around in time and perspective, building to a dizzying delight of a finale.

Bi: Notes for a Bisexual Revolution

Shiri Eisner

This is an excellent resource that deals with bisexuality not as some kind of hybrid identity, but as a distinct orientation (!!!) and challenges the notion that bisexuality reinforces the gender binary. Eisner articulates notions of biphobia and monosexism in a way I have not previously encountered — I cannot recommend this book enough.
